Following the runaway success of previous Cool Cuts charting collaborations (‘Round 10’ and ‘Wannabe’), Geek label owner Jason Phats and his protégé Juan Corbi team up once again on ‘Al Bam Boom’; another piece of funked up, techy, sonic wizardry from the indomitable duo.
NICK TCHERNIAK & STEVE THOMAS ‘THE ANSWER EP’
LABEL: GEEK RECORDS / RELEASED: 1ST NOV 2010
Nick Tcherniak & Steve Thomas, two DJ / producer names renowned for their ability to rock underground dancefloors around the world, are to release ‘The Answer’ EP. The release is their first since signing to Jason Phats’ GEEK label, home to cutting edge sounds ranging from tech house, through to minimal and experimental electronica with a twist. ‘The Answer’ EP comprises of the title track featuring Lizzie France on vocals and ‘Take The Pill’ with remixes from Jason Phats, Tom Marchant and Matt Smallwood.
‘The Answer’ features a quality driving, progressive groove, with dark stabs, the sinister spoken vocal ‘the answer’, balanced by the ethereal vocals perfectly delivered by Lizzie France. ‘Take The Pill’ delivers a bouncier, percussive groove, but keeps the edginess with a dark, distorted vocal demanding ‘take the pill’. This EP is a true dancefloor destroyer; the perfect soundtrack for a night of messed up club adventures. GEEK label owner Jason Phats provides a mix and dub which masterfully takes the track down a funky, disco route. Carl Cox’s ‘producer of the year’, Matt Smallwood, lends his hand to ‘The Answer’, offering a perfectly articulated tech-house tinted perspective on the original, whilst Essex-based producer, Tom Marchant completes the package, adding his trademark funky prog flavours.
Jason Phats Digital keeps up the quality as label boss, Jason Phats, links up with new talent Juan Corbi, to deliver the superb melodic, tech house track, ‘Wannabe’.
As always, super tight beats, great grooves and a magnectic dancefloor appeal make ‘Wannabe” a sure fire winner.
The studio mix of creativity, experience and enthusiasm for making music has ensured ‘Wannabe’ is an unmissable house music exploration. ‘Wannabe’ kicks off with crisp percussion and smooth, vocal-led drop and moves swiftly into a stunning exercise into how house music should be. Chiming instrumentals dominate the midway breakdown, before a ships bell signals the return to the chirruping, driving tech-infused energy of the main tune. Flexing their skills to the max, the boys really go to town here.
Expect plenty more from this duo in the months to come.
Label boss and legendary DJ/producer, Jason Phats, steps up to deliver the exotically-named ‘Funkyseptoplasty’; a high class, funky, disco cut on the newly re-launched Afrocuts imprint. Initially established back in the late 90s, Afrocuts was a favourite of industry heavyweights such as Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, Stacey Pullen, Derrick May and Ashley Beedle.
It’s now set to enjoy a musical renaissance as it’s brought back into the Jason Phats Digital Group fold for 2010. ‘Funkyseptoplasty’ is the perfect track to kick things off; a blend of disco and house exploding with funked up energy.
